When Luke retired from Drax Hall, he was essentially well-prepared and was able to move quite smoothly into his new home and into a new retirement lifestyle in Lillyfield, St Ann. But almost immediately he got a generous job offer to manage a poultry farm a few miles away. He once told me that he accepted because he could use the money and figured he could always get back to farming his own plot later. But this is how he explained things later 'I always knew chickens laid eggs everyday but I never considered therefore I would have to work everyday including Saturdays and Sundays'. This became somewhat of a disappointment later when he gave up the job because he discovered to his chagrin he no longer had the strength nor the energy to really farm his land, Beryl had slowed down much more and therefore had missed a window of time when he might have enjoyed his retirement more. So for the first couple years of Luke's retirement he was still quite busily working, making more than enough to pay the bills but still not really enjoying his new home nor spending as much time as he'd hoped with his wife Beryl. But it was also very productive and rewarding in other ways. Douglas brought his family home and Luke finally had grandkids Brandon and Chantall to dote on and he proudly attended Douglas and Jo-Jo's wedding. Luke had a hand somehow helping Jo-Jo and Douglas eventually moving to Florida where they could start new lives together. Even though that meant he and Beryl from then onwards would be empty-nesters.
