There he personally overlooked the design and construction of his own new home and allowed himself to begin dreaming of the day he and his wife could settle down with him in the country, they would farm the little land, retire peacefully and contentedly knowing his children would be able to look after themselves. That move from Drax Hall to Lillyfield with Douglas and Beryl therefore would be the last time he would move house. And at last he could say he owned the place he lived, he was never more free and independent and with Beryl at his side again he truly was happy.
