At Drax Hall, all four of his children essentially grew up, taking on the forms and characteristics setting them apart for the rest of their lives. Luke and Beryl also marked their Silver 25th wedding Anniversary with brother Mansang and his wife Bernie. It was during the decade of disco -- big hair afro, bell-bottom pants, drapey unbuttoned shirt tops. How times had changed! Liz moved away to Kingston and finished her education. She got a job, got married and stayed there. Not very long afterwards she moved away to New York, USA to start a new life there with Clis. Peter also went to Kingston to finish up his education, got a job, got married and stayed there. Raymond finished up his education in the country and leveraged that into a job at one of the bauxite companies. But after a few years he also left Jamaica, going to Texas where he would later marry and begin his new career and a family in Houston. Anticipating his retirement therefore, Luke and Beryl invested and bought a modest plot of land in Lillyfield near Bamboo, St. Ann. There he personally overlooked the design and construction of his own new home and allowed himself to begin dreaming of the day he and his wife could settle down with him in the country, they would farm the little land, retire peacefully and contentedly knowing his children would be able to look after themselves. That move from Drax Hall to Lillyfield with Douglas and Beryl therefore would be the last time he would move house. And at last he could say he owned the place he lived, he was never more free and independent and with Beryl at his side again he truly was happy.
