Luke was a very self-aware man, conscious of his own personal and family history and in fact of all things historical. He felt very keenly those who knew not their history were doomed to repeat it. In this respect particularly -- through our shared interest in family history, public affairs and historical events, he and I bonded. This is one reason why only now I feel I could share this letter (and others). Between Luke and Peter a much longer family history and geneaological charts were prepared. These will be presented later in searchable digital formats, when ready.
